For communities
If you run an autism, ADHD, or neurodivergent group, this page explains what unmaskd. is and how it might be useful to the people you already support.
The short version
- unmaskd. is free for your members to join and use.
- You can share it with them today. No partnership or agreement needed.
- Each member has their own account and decides what to share.
- Dedicated spaces for communities are something we'd like to build later. They don't exist yet.
What is unmaskd.?
unmaskd. is a social network built with neurodivergent adults in mind. People make profiles that show how they communicate, what helps them, and what they're looking for, whether that's friendship, dating, or someone to work on a project with. It runs in a web browser, so there's nothing to download from an app store. Members must be 18 or older.
Most people on unmaskd. joined on their own. That will stay true. Nobody needs to be part of an organization to use it.
Why might it be useful to your members?
Your group probably already does a lot: meetups, support, good information. What can be harder is giving people a low-pressure way to get to know each other one-to-one, or to meet people outside the group when they're ready to.
- Profiles cover communication style, support needs, energy limits, and boundaries, so people know what to expect before the first message.
- Slow replies are fine. Nobody is pushed to answer right away.
- Circles are group spaces around shared interests and places, where members can post and reply.
- Each part of a profile has its own visibility setting, and members can keep their profile out of Discover entirely.
- Members can block anyone and report anything that isn't okay.
See how it works and our safety page for more detail.
What does it cost members?
Nothing. Making a profile, connecting with people, messaging, and Circles are all free, and they're meant to stay that way. Nobody can pay for better visibility or for the ability to message someone. The pricing page has the details.
Can we recommend it without a formal partnership?
Yes. You don't need an agreement, a contract, or our permission. Mention it in a newsletter, add a link to your resources page, or bring it up at a meeting.
Each person signs up on their own. Joining doesn't link their account to your organization, and you won't have access to their account or activity. It's one more option for them, not a replacement for anything you already offer.
How could this change in the future?
Not built yetWe'd like communities to be able to have their own space on unmaskd. at some point. We're not promising dates, but these are the ideas we're exploring:
- A space with your group's name, where your members can find each other.
- Simple tools for organizers to look after and moderate that space.
- The option for members to meet people from other participating communities, if they want to.
- Members choosing for themselves how visible they are, inside the group and beyond it.
The idea is to add to what your group already does. Your group would keep its own identity, and your members wouldn't have to move anywhere.
Today's Circles are a different thing. They're open to every member and aren't run by organizations.
