Delete Your Account
Last updated: October 3, 2026
You can delete your unmaskd. account at any time, directly in the app. You do not need to contact support to do this.
Just want a break? Deactivate instead
If you only want to step away temporarily, Deactivate account (in the same Account Settings screen) is reversible — your profile is hidden and you stop receiving messages and connection requests, but nothing is deleted. Deactivating signs you out immediately. Your account is kept until you come back: sign in again with your username or email and password, then choose to reactivate — signing in alone does not restore your account. A deactivated account is never deleted automatically. The rest of this page is about the permanent option — deactivating is a separate, undoable choice.
How to delete your account
In the unmaskd. app:
- Open Settings
- Tap Account settings
- Scroll to Delete your account and tap Delete my account
- Type delete to confirm, then tap Delete account
What happens when you delete your account
As soon as you confirm, you are signed out everywhere and your account is hidden: no one can find your profile, message you, or send you a connection request.
Your account then stays recoverable for 30 days, in case you change your mind. To restore it, sign in during that window and choose Restore my account. Signing in alone does not restore anything. We email you a reminder with the exact date about a week before the window ends.
After 30 days, your profile, messages, connections, posts, uploaded photos, and account credentials are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone. Encrypted backups are kept for a limited time for disaster recovery and are removed on their normal schedule.
What we retain, and why
Two narrow categories of information can outlive your account, each for a specific, limited reason:
- A one-way hashed record of your email address, used only to detect ban-evasion if someone tries to re-register after being removed for a policy violation. It cannot be reversed back into your email address.
- If your account was involved in a safety report that was still open at the moment you deleted your account, the information needed to complete that review is kept only as long as the review requires.
See our Privacy Policy for the full picture of what we collect and how long we keep it.
